On the auspicious occasion of the Krodhi year, on the 1st day of the Tamil month Thai (January 14, 2025, Tuesday), under the Krishna Paksha Pratipada Tithi, Punarvasu Nakshatra, and Siddha Yoga, the Sun God (Surya Bhagavan) will transition from Sagittarius (Dhanur Rashi) to Capricorn (Makara Rashi). This transition, known as Makara Sankranti, will occur at 19.21 nazhigai after sunrise (equivalent to 3:11 PM Malaysian time) on the same day.
Therefore, Thai Pongal and Makara Sankranti will be celebrated throughout Malaysia on this day.
