YB Waythamoorthy must stay in his position!

Petaling Jaya, 22 December 2018

Datuk RS Mohan Shan, President of Malaysia Hindu Sangam and Malaysian Consultative Council of Buddhism, Christianity, Hinduism, Sikhism and Taoism (MCCBCHST) render support to YB Waythamoorthy to remain as the Minister of Unity and Social Wellbeing in the Prime Minister’s Department.

Following the riot which broke out at Sri Maha Mariamman Temple, USJ 25, Subang Jaya on 26th November, there has been a call from the public demanding the resignation of Waythamoorthy. This is totally uncalled for as it is not Waythamoorthy who was responsible for the riot.

The Honourable Prime Minister, Tun Dr Mahathir has given the said portfolio to Waythamoorthy to work towards strengthening unity and harmony among the various races in Malaysia. However, the recent incident at Seafield temple was used by some people to malign the Minister’s name.

We deeply mourn the death of Mohd Adib, the fireman who lost his life while on duty at the scene. While condemning anyone who committed this crime and urge for their punishment, we do not think it is appropriate to urge Waythamoorthy, who has been carrying out his duty to resign. Waythamoorthy’s removal will not do justice to the departed soul.

As a Minister who has been entrusted for the National Unity and Social Wellbeing, we fully support that Waythamoorthy continues to helm his duties to the best of his abilities.
