Malaysia Hindu Sangam Submits Memorandum of Protest to United Nations Against Attacks on Hindus in Bangladesh

Putrajaya, 11 December 2024 – Malaysia Hindu Sangam (MHS), the apex Hindu body in the nation, submitted a Memorandum of Protest to the United Nations, calling for urgent intervention regarding the recent attacks on Hindus in Bangladesh.

The memorandum was formally handed over at the United Nations Malaysian Office in Putrajaya by MHS President, Mr.Thanga Ganesan, and Assistant Hon. General Secretary, Mr. Mahendhren. This significant step underscores MHS’ commitment to safeguarding the rights and welfare of Hindus worldwide.

In the memorandum, MHS highlighted the alarming rise in violence targeting Hindus, including arson, desecration of temples, physical assaults, and forced displacements.

The memorandum urged the United Nations to:
1.Condemn the ongoing violence.
2.Engage the Bangladeshi government to ensure swift justice and protective measures.
3.Deploy fact-finding missions to evaluate the situation.
4.Advocate for minority rights and safety within Bangladesh.

Speaking at the submission, Thanga Ganesan emphasized the need for international solidarity to protect vulnerable communities. “The Hindu community in Bangladesh has faced repeated atrocities. It is our moral duty to amplify their plight and seek justice through global mechanisms like the United Nations,” he stated.

MHS calls upon the international community to support this cause and uphold the universal principles of human rights and equality.

The submission was accompanied by supporting documentation and reports detailing the ongoing challenges faced by Hindus in Bangladesh.
