SIGNIFICANCE OF THE EMBLEM
The emblem of the Malaysia Hindu Sangam features the auspicious Kumbha (கும்பம்) bearing the sacred symbol of Pranava, Aum (ॐ), together with the motto “Thondu” (தொண்டு) – “Service.”
The Kumbha, or sacred pot, holds a significant place in Hindu religious tradition. In temple worship and sacred ceremonies, the Divine is often invoked and consecrated in a Kumbha filled with sanctified water. As a symbol of purity, auspiciousness and the Divine Presence, the Kumbha aptly represents the spiritual foundation of
Hindu Dharma.
The sacred Pranava, Aum (ॐ), represents the primordial sound and the eternal Divine. It is one of the most universally recognised sacred symbols of Hinduism and is revered by Hindus across different philosophical traditions, sects, denominations, languages and regions.
The combination of the Kumbha and Pranava therefore represents the universality, unity and diversity of Hindu Dharma. These symbols transcend differences of sect, denomination, language, tradition and region, reflecting the shared spiritual heritage of Hindus.
This symbolism aptly reflects the character and purpose of the Malaysia Hindu Sangam as a national representative organisation serving Hindus throughout Malaysia. The emblem embodies the Sangam’s commitment to unity in diversity, while respecting and embracing the rich variety of Hindu traditions and practices.
The motto “Thondu” (தொண்டு) – “Service” expresses the fundamental spirit of the organisation: to serve the Hindu community and society with dedication, integrity and compassion. It reflects the principle that service to humanity is an important expression of Dharma.
Thus, the emblem of the Malaysia Hindu Sangam symbolises
Hindu Dharma, spiritual unity, inclusiveness and selfless service, representing the organisation’s enduring commitment to the welfare, unity and advancement of Hindus in Malaysia.
