Avoid Houses of Worship as a Precaution Against Covid-19!

Petaling Jaya, March 12, 2020

Malaysia Hindu Sangam President, Datuk RS Mohan Shan requested all Hindus to avoid places of worship to minimize the risk of spreading Covid-19. This is in line with the advice received from the Ministry of Health over the fast spreading cases of Covid-19 in the country.

For the past few weeks, Covid-19 cases have been in the increase. Though there are no deaths in Malaysia, however the increase in number of reported cases is alarming.

Today, the Ministry of Health has issued a statement urging Malaysians to avoid mass gatherings, including houses of worship. Those who are suffering from cough or fever are urged to take extra precaution to avoid public spaces.

Devotees who intend to visit the temples, especially for Temple Thiruvizha or Maha Kumbhabhisekam where thousands of people gather, are advised to avoid such celebrations for their own health. Those who are visiting such mass celebrations must take the necessary precautions such as wearing surgical mask, and washing their hands clean.

For the safety of every one, Malaysia Hindu Sangam request all Hindu devotees to be responsible and follow all precautions given by the Health Ministry. Till further instruction from the Ministry, may all do their mite to help control this deathly virus.
